Description:
|
The new roof is being constructed on the Wood Street elevation of the John Rylands Library, Deansgate, Manchester. The pitched roof follows closely Basil Champneys' original plans. The joists and purlins are supported on concrete padstones, set into the existing shallow-pitched concrete roof, which has been left in situ. Rafters are being fixed in place, with apertures left for the skylights. The The image was taken from the north tower on the Deansgate elevation. Construction and restoration work is being undertaken by Linford Building Ltd, successors to the firm who worked on the original Library building in the 1890s.
