The words ' Edward 3 ' are written in the top margin. The tale of how the brother of Edward II, Edmund Woodstock, is told by the constable of the castle that his brother Edward II is still alive, and how he pleads with the constable of the castle to let him see him. How a letter addressed to Edward II from his brother Edmund falls into the hands of Roger Mortimer. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

saide Castell and ȝaf him riche ȝiftis for to haue aqueyn- taunce of him and to knowe of his counceile // And þus it bifel þ(t) þe forsaide S(ir) Edmunde p(ra)yede specially for to telle him p(ri)uely of his lord his broþ(er) S(ir) Edward ȝif þ(t) he leuede or were dede and yif þ(t) he were alyf he p(ra)iede of him for to haue ones a sighte // And þis S(ir) John Dauerell was an hey herted man and ful of corage and ansuerede short- ly vnto S(ir) Edmund and saide þ(t) S(ire) Edward his broþer was in hele and vndir his kepynge: and derste shewe him vnto no man. sith it was defendede him in þe king(es) half Edward. þ(t) was Edwardus sone of Carnariuan and also þorugh com(~)aundeme(~)t of þe Quene.
