þe pope John. þe. xxij(e). at avyoun and saide þ(t) almyghty god had manye tymes done for Thom(a)s loue of lancastr(e) manye grete myracles to menye men and wymme(~)þ(t) were þorugh diu(er)se maladies vndone as vnto þe worlde and þorugh his prayer þey were brought vnto hire hele // & so S(ir) Edmunde praide þe pope hertily þ(t) he wolde g(ra)unte him g(ra)ce þ(t) þe forsaide Thomas myghte ben transla- ted: but þe Pope saide nay he shulde nouȝt ben translated þe same Thomas erl of lancastr(e) vnto þe time þ(t) he were bet- tre certified of þ(e) clergie of Engelond: and seyn by hire obe dience what þing god hath done for þe loue of Thom(a)s of lancastr(e) after þe suggestioun þat þe forsaide Emund of Wo- destoke erl of kent hadde vnto him made // And whanne þis Edmund saugh þ(t) he myghte nouȝt speede of his purpos as touching þe t(ra)nslacioun he p(ra)yde him of his counceile as touchinge S(ire) Edwarde of Carnariuan his bro þ(er) and saide nouȝt longe gon þ(t) he was king of Engelonde what þing myȝte best be done as touchinge his delyu(er)aunce sith þat a com(~)une fame is þorugh out al Engelonde þ(t) he was in lyf and hol and saf // Whenne þe pope herde him telle þ(t) S(ir) Edewarde was alyf: he com(~)aundede þe erl vppon his benesou(~) þ(t) he shulde helpe w(t) al þe poer þat he myghte þat he were delyuered out of p(ri)sou(~) and saue his body in alle manere þ(t) he myghte and for to bringe þis þing vn- to an ende: he assoilede him and his companye a pena & a culpa and alle þo þat halpen to his delyu(er)aunce // þo nome Edmunde of Wodestoke Erl of kent his leue of þe pope and come aȝen in to Engelonde // And whanne Ed- munde was come somme of þe Frer p(re)cho(ur)s comen & saide þ(t) S(ir) Edward his broþ(er) ȝit was alyf in þe Castel of Corf vnder þe kepynge of S(ir) Thom(a)s þe Gurnaay // þo sped him þe forsaide Edmunde as faste as he myȝte til þ(t) he come vnto þe Castel of Corf: and aqueyntede and spake so faire w(t) S(ir) John Dauerille þat was Constable of þe for-
