Description:
Map: North Riding, Yorkshire. Coloured map with latitude and longitude marked around the edge. The map is very rich in detail including cities, place names, rivers and mountains. Castles, mountains and significant buildings are illustrated by drawings. Boundaries are denoted by coloured lines. Bottom centre is a large sketch of York. In the bottom right corner an ornate cartouche contains the dedication: 'To the Noble and Right Honble. Robert Darcy, Earl of Holderness, One of the Gentlemen of his Majesty's bedchamber, and Lord Lieutenant of the North Riding of Yorkshire. This map is dedicated by His Lordship's most obedt. humble servt. Eman Bowen'. Next to this is a scale bar showing 'British Statute Miles 69 to a Degree' and an 'explanation' of symbols used. Bottom left is a large ornate cartouche containing the title and the words: 'By Eman Bowen geographer to His Majesty'. This is decorated with figures on horse back. Printed along the bottom is: 'R Wilkinson No. 58 in Cornhill & Robt. Sayer, in Fleet Street'.
