Description:
Map: Nottinghamshire. Coloured map with latitude and longitude marked around the edge. The map is very rich in detail including cities, place names, rivers and mountains. Castles, mountains and significant buildings are illustrated by drawings. Boundaries are denoted by coloured lines. Top left is a large ornate cartouche containing the title and the words: 'By Eman Bowen, Geogr. to his Majesty'. This is decorated with a riverside scene. Around the map are paragraphs giving statistical and historical data about the area. In the top right corner another ornate cartouche contains the dedication: 'To the Most Noble Thomas, Duke of Newcastle, Lord Lieutenant and Custos Rotulorum & Lord Lieutenant for the County of Nottingham. This map is dedicated by His Grace's most humble servt. Eman Bowen'. Bottom left is an 'Explanation' of the symbols used. Bottom right is a scale bar showing: 'British Statute Miles 69 to a Degree'. Printed along the bottom is: 'London. Printed for Laurie & Whittle 53 Fleet Street, Bowles & Carver 69 St Pauls Church Yard, & R Wilkinson 58 Cornhill'.
