Description:
Map: Lancashire. Monochrome map created in 1577 and reprinted in 1932. Very rich detail including place names and rivers. Woods and mountains are illustrated as are the oceans with ships and sea creatures. The title is presented in Latin, top right in a large decorative cartouche with a table listing the Hundreds underneath. Bottom left is a scale decorated with a pair of dividers and marked: 'Scala Miliarium'. Above this is a largecoat of arms. Septentrio, Meridies, Oriens, Occidens (Latin for North, South, East and West) are printed around the edges. Beneath the map is printed: 'english country Maps Sheet 6 R. geog Soc. London 1932'.
