Description:

Map: Derbyshire. Monochrome with ornate border, the map is very rich in detail including cities, place names, rivers and mountains. Castles, mountains and significant buildings are illustrated by drawings. Inset bottom left is a map of Derby with a key to significant features. There is a decorative cartouche containing the title of the map and a coat of arms. Beneath this is a compass rose and a large though simplistic sketch of Buxton. The inscription reads: 'Performed by John Speed and are to be sold by Thomas Bassett in Fleet Street & Richard Chiswell in St Pauls Churchyard'. Top left are the coats of arms of 'all those honorable famylys as have borne the dignitye and the title of Earles of Darbye from the tyme of the Normans Conquest unto this present'. There are four coats of arms illustrated.
