Print 11: Principal staircase of the John Rylands Library, Deansgate, Manchester, leading up to the Reading Room. The Library was the first public building in Manchester to be totally lit by electricity, and the elaborate Art Nouveau standard, mounted on the sandstone newel, is a focal point of the staircase. The Library opened to the public on 1st January 1900.
