Description: 
Watercolour drawing; Sultan Osman, killed by the Janissaries. This Sultan’s orangey-red coat is Minium, or red lead, created by roasting white lead pigments. A darker, insect-based red is used for his lips. The contrasting silver is in unusually bright condition; silver usually tarnishes quickly.
