Description:
In the field a large lozenge of ornamental foliage, joined at the top and bottom by a double ring. In the centre of the lozenge and of the panel, within a circular medallion, is the bust of Areobindus, beardless and wearing the 'toga picta'. In his left hand he holds a sceptre surmounted by the imperial bust and in his right. which is raised, the 'mappa circensis'. Immediately above and below the medallion, and within the lozenge, is his monogram. All the carving is in relief and both outer leaves of the diptych are identical.
