The book was, / however, laid by for me to learn suf- / ficient latin inoffensively to add:- / [two rows of crosses] - to avoid a / further indefinite delay, now said / in asterisk. This to him with / Xmas Greetings from me E. J. / "Mense Decembri" / mcmxxvj.
