Autumn 1903 edition of Yggdrasill magazine; created by the students of Ashburne House. The Illustrated Autumn term cover is the title of the magazine framed by drawings of horse chestnuts. The drawings have been coloured with watercolour paint. The first folio bears two photographs of what looks to be a garden party at which children are in attendance. The verso of the folio has the Editorial notes. The notes thank Miss Llewellyn for the cover of Yggdrasill and notes that she is the only new contributor this term. The notes continue by gently chastising fellow Ashburnians for lack of effort in contributing to the magazine and urge more enthusiasm for the next issue. The lack of interest in Hall Societies has also been noticed and offers that this is due in part to the involvement of students in the College Societies. The notes conclude with a warning that this edition will not have any details of athletics written up in it. The articles begin on folio two with the 'Chronicle' which concludes with a list of current students in residence. On the verso of folio three is letter to the Editor, an account of Westfield College by J. H. Williamson. This is followed by a short fiction entitled 'A Rose Coloured Dream' (signed M.C.) which runs from the verso of folio six to the verso of folio seven. Underneath the story is another photograph of children playing in a garden. Following this is 'A Novel Excursion and an Interview with the learned Sir Thomas Browne' on folio eight, which has been signed B.H and then a poem by C.L.C entitled 'The Lonely Hall' dated July 1903. The next article 'The New Student' begins on folio eleven. The piece is signed M.H. and directly underneath is another photograph of the garden party. The following contribution is a descriptive essay on the North Yorkshire coastal town of Whitby which begins on the verso of folio twelve. The final article is 'A month's housekeeping in the Lake District' by J.D.C which begins on folio thirteen. The article has been illustrated with photographs of Coniston which have been captioned by the author. A final photograph of two children playing on the Ashburne (?) tennis court appears underneath the images of Coniston. The magazine concludes on folio sixteen with a comic advertisement for 'Clarkson's Pink Parties for Pale People' a cure for all ills.
