Description: 
A Petrarchan sonnet illustrated in black and white. It is an occasional poem by Dante Gabriel Rossetti to celebrate his mother's birthday (the latin phrase at the bottom translates as 'Made for mother'). The octave and the sestet each begin with the words 'A Sonnet' and these are blocked out in black. A winged female figure ('Anima'), flies across holding a lyre; her head crowned with a laurel wreath. Her left hand places a winged hourglass in a flowering bush. At the bottom, inside the frame is printed: 'D G Rosetti pro Matre fecit Apr:27.1880' .
