Single line engraving in black ink. Blake has here replicated compositional devices from the earlier illustrations 'Satan Before the Throne of God' and 'Satan Going Forth from the Presence of the Lord, and Job's Charity'. Whereas before these plates visually celebrated Satan's rise and embarkation on his journey of torment, now in a mimicking fashion we are shown Satan's decline and return to the underworld. Job and his companions are now freed of their murky world and share the same space as an enthroned and illuminated God supported by angels. The earth splits between Job and his wife and the three comforters to create a passage for the anguished Satan to rush down to his demise. The comforters of Job are distressed by this occurrence but Job receives it with a calm countenance, recognising his salvation.
