View of the Victoria Buildings, Manchester. View of the highly ornate doorway to the Victoria Buildings on St Mary's Gate. The doorway has it's shutters down. The lintel above the doorway has 'Victoria Buildings' carved into it and the tympanum (the space above the lintel, up to the point of the arch) is decorated with intricate tracery. Around the arch the stonework has been deeply carved giving a three-dimensional effect to the figures depicted. The entrance to the Tea and Coffee Merchants, Robert Roberts & Co. is marked by two signs on the right of the entrance. Two almost spectral figures can be seen under the lamppost to the left of the doorway. The Victoria Buildings, which also housed the Victoria Hotel were destroyed in the Manchester Blitz in the 1940's.
