Description: 
Interior view of ward no.16, the female sick & infirm ward, Menston Asylum. A large room with a number of beds, placed back to back. Some of the beds have patients in them and three nurses are positioned around the ward. There is a tiled fireplace with a mirrored overmantel and numerous pictures and plants decorating the room. Busts and small sculptures are also visible set on plinths above the fireplace and over doorways.

References have been found to the Hospital under the following names: The Third West Riding County Lunatic Asylum, West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum and Menston Asylum; It was later named High Royds Hospital. The inscription at the front of the volume is the name 'Dr T O' Conor Donelan, Menston Asylum, Leeds Nov. 19. 1901' Dr O' Conor Donelan, worked at the asylum until 1905.
