To the side of the staircase there is a pair of 18th century stone sphinxes. The fountain in the foreground shows seated classical figures a second fountain is just visible to the right of the print. The terrace was designed by Charles Barry in the 1840s. Brother-in-law to Harewood's Estate Manager at the time, Roger Fenton visited Harewood in 1860 where he photographed the Terrace and surrounding landscape.
