Description:
Interior view of the hall at 5 Collingham Gardens, Earls Court, looking towards the fireplace with the staircase to the right. Carpeted stairs lead up to the hall. The fireplace has an arched surround and a decorative frieze on the mantel. A mantel clock and other ornaments sit on the mantel piece. Above the fire on the chimney breast is a large landscape painting (unidentified). There is a feature timber ceiling and the wooden balustrade on the staircase has an arcade design. There is an easy chair at one side of the fire and a writing desk and chair on the other. An animal skin is draped over a piece of furniture at the entrance to the hallway. The houses of Collingham Gardens were built by the architects Ernest George and Harold Peto. The image was taken for the Earl of Wilton, the owner of the house. There are some flaws in the print itself, likely sustained in the printing process rather than a flaw to the original plate or negative.
