Description:
A group of six women, four dressed in breeches, jumpers and boots, one dressed in a smock [overcoat] with an arm band and knee high laced boots. The woman in the middle is wearing an overcoat and hat. They are holding a variety of tools. The Women's Forestry Service was started by Miss Rosamund Crowdy as a section of the Land Army. It was set up under the Timber Supply Department, part of the Board of trade in 1917. Training camps for cutting and measuring the timber were held at several locations, including Wendover.
