Description:
Two women dressed in breeches, boots and jumpers kneel with a saw between them at the foot of a tree. Another woman dressed in an overcoat and slouch hat stands watching them. The Women's Forestry Service was started by Miss Rosamund Crowdy as a section of the Land Army. It was set up under theTimber Supply Department, part of the Board of trade in 1917. Training camps for cutting and measuring the timber wereheld at several locations, including Wendover.
