A woman dressed in breeches, knee high laced boots and jumper holds an axe. She is chopping down a tree. The Women's Forestry Service was started by Miss Rosamund Crowdy as a section of the Land Army. It was set up under theTimber Supply Department, part of the Board of trade in 1917. Training camps for cutting and measuring the timber wereheld at several locations, including Wendover.
