Description:
|
Front elevation of the Dunham Massey House. The doorway is central in the building with symmetrical windows on either side of it. There are 14 visible windows, the windows on the lower two floors are 12 paned and the upper floor windows have 6 panes. There are two chimneys. The doorway has a plain surround with scrolls and a small window above. In front of the building is an ornamental sundial situated on a grass lawn. The ornamental sundial depicts an African slave clad in leaves, carrying the sundial over his head. It is early 18th century and reported to be by either Van Nost or Carpentiere. It is made in stone with a metal dial.
