The room is dominated by floor to ceiling wooden bookcases filled with volumes. There is a fireplace in the centre of the far wall with an unidentifiable framed painting hanging above it. On the left hand wall are two large windows. There are three occasional tables placed beside the walls and two larger tables in the centre of the room. Three of the tables hold scientific instruments, the largest of these is the orrery, which was made by Thomas Wright, instrument maker to George II [it is a clockwork device designed to illustrate the relative positions and movement of the planets around the sun.] The other instruments appear to be a telescope and a globe. There are two small volumes on the table beside the orrery, one of which is open. An elaborately carved chair is placed against the right hand bookcase; opposite against the other wall is a dining room chair. Placed next to the far table is a wicker style rocking chair. Tear in the photograph top right hand corner.
