Graph. From Lecture notes for Practical Physics, compiled by Doris Bailey in the second year of honours physics course (1910-1911). The notes relate to a course in radioactivity, probably delivered by Hans Geiger. Subjects include: alpha ray electroscopes; the absorption of alpha rays; decay of actinium active deposits; decay of active deposit from thorium; the transformation of radium; absorption of beta rays from radium by cardboard, aluminium foil, paper, lead; absorption of beta rays from thorium by various substances.

Notes:
Doris Bailey, 1891-1970, studied physics at the University of Manchester (B.Sc. 1911, M.Sc. 1920, B. Sc (Maths), 1912). She entered the teaching profession and was headmistress of the Queen Mary School, Lytham, Lancashire from 1930-1951.
