John Henry Lamble, 1906-1975; A photograph of Dr Lamble in the materials testing laboratory in the Sackville Street building of the College of Technology (UMIST) which at the time housed the Faculty of Technology of the University of Manchester. He is seen employed with one of the machines in the laboratory that were used for testing the strength of materials, behind him is an unidentified figure at work on another piece of equipment. Dr Lamble was appointed lecturer in Mechanical Engineering in 1936 and went on to become a Reader in the strength of materials continuing up until 1973. On the reverse of the picture is an attached label which reads 'The University of Manchester Dr Lamble investigating a strength of materials problem' Also written directly onto the print is 'Fac of technology, Nov 1944, 35'.
