The interior of the Textile Engineering Laboratory in the main UMIST building. Shot from the south western corner looking back across the room towards the doorway in the north east corner. The lab contains workbenches and tables of various sizes on which has been placed a variety of scientific equipment. There is a drive shaft running along the eastern wall near to roof height which is linked by fly wheels and belts to the machinery below and was the means by which power was transferred from the generators. The room was located on the ground floor (floor B) of the building and lay to the south of the handloom weaving room on the corner of Sackville Street and Granby Row.
