Description:
The interior of the lecture theatre at the eastern end of floor E in the main UMIST building on Sackville Street. Taken from the back of the room looking down across the stepped benches to the black boards and demonstration counter at the front. On the eastern side can be seen two large ornate glass windows with stained glass sections, one above the other, and on the western wall the main doorway with a boxed clock similar to those found throughout the building fixed above it. Next to the blackboard is a further smaller door which led to the preparation room. The ceiling is ornately curved and there are two large wrought iron chandeliers hanging from it. Above the black board on the southern wall are four charts from left to right these are a table of the elements, A graph partly obscured by the chandelier with the words “Lothar Meyers” printed on it, a diagram with the title “Classification of gases flame, ozone” and a diagram titled “concentration of sulphuric acid”. There are various technical apparatus on the bench and diagrams and equations on the blackboard. There is a small number “40” printed in white in the bottom right corner of the image.
