Black and white photograph of Coupland Street taken from a slightly elevated position in what is now Coupland 3 (at the time it was the home of the Medical School) looking east down the cobbled expanse of the street as it runs towards Oxford Road. There are cars parked over the pavement which borders the southern side of the street running along the back of the Beyer building and across the entrance to the rear quad, that at this date had a low wall separating it from the main thoroughfare. There are further vehicles parked in front of the Whitworth Engineering Lab. (now the Martin Harris building) on the northern side of the street. To the east of this stands Physics building (now the Rutherford building) visible beyond which is the Museum with its covered bridge forming an archway spanning the junction with Oxford Road.
