Description:
Amulet. The text on this side of the parchment is taken from the liturgy of Saint Mark. It continues on the verso where a prayer for the dead was added in a different handwriting. The verso is a palimpsest: the Greek was written perpendicularly to an older Coptic manuscript. Purchased by J. Rendel Harris in Egypt in 1917

Notes:
The Coptic text is currently being studied by Malcolm Choat (Macquarie University) with a view to publication. Dated to the 6th century CE on the basis of palaeography.
