þe kinges wille shulde ben don in as muche as he myghte and wolde nought spare for no maner deþ and so he swore and made his oþ // þo saide S(ir) Will(ia)m of Mountagu to þe Constable in heringe of alle ham þat were helpynge vnto þe querell: Now certes dere frende vs byhoueth for to werche and done by ȝoure queyntise to take þe Mortym(er) sith þat ȝe ben kep(er)e of þe Castell and haueth þe keyes in ȝour war de // Sire quod þe Constable wile ȝe vndirstonde þ(t) þe gat(es) of þe castel beth lokede w(t) þe lokes þat Dame. Js(abel). sende hi- der. and by nyghte she hath þe keyes þ(er)of and leith þam vnder þe cheuisel of hire bed vnto þe morne. and so y may nowȝt come in to þe Castel by þe gates in no man(er) wise but y knowe an alee þat strecchith out of þe warde vnder erthe in to þe Castel þ(t) goþ in to þe west which alee dame Js(abel). þ(e) Quene ne none of hire men ne þe Mortym(er) ne non of his companye knowith it nouȝt and so y shal lede ȝow þorugh þ(t) alee and so ȝe shulle come in to þe Castel w(t)oute aspyes of ony man þ(t) beth ȝour enemys // And þ(e) same nyght S(ir) Will(ia)m Mountagu and alle þe lordes of his q(ue)rel and þ(e) same constable also wente ham to hors and maden semblaunt as it were forto wende out of þe Mortymers sighte // But anon as þe Mortym(er) herde þis tydyng(es). he wende þ(t) þey wolde haue gon ou(er) þe see for drede of him and anon he and his compaignye nome counceil among(es) ham for to lette hire passage . and sente l(et)reȝ anon vnto þ(e) portis. so þat none of þe grete lordes shulde wende home vnto hire owene cuntre but ȝif he were areste. and takne // And among oþ(er) þing(es) Will(ia)m Olande Constable of þe for- saide Castel p(ri)uyleche lad S(ir) Will(ia)m Mountagu . and his companye by þe forsaide way vnder erþ(e) so til þ(t) þey co- men in to þe Castel and wente vp in to þe Tour þere þat þe Mortym(er) was in: but S(ir) Hughe þe Trompeton ham ast(er)ede hidously and saide.
