The words ' Edward 3 ' are written in the top margin. An illuminated initial ' A ' introduces the tale of Sir Roger Mortimer's pride and excess spending, and how he was angry with those who accused him of being a murderer. The scribe has erased his original words, and his amended text extend past the line of the right margin. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

And so it bifel at þ(t) time þ(t) S(ir) Rog(er) Mortym(er) erl of þe Marche was so p(ro)ut and so hautein þat he helde no lord of reaume his pere and þo bicome he so coueitous þ(t) he fol- wede dame Jsabelle þe Quenes Court þe kinges mooder Ed- ward and bifette his peny worthes w(t) þe officers of þ(e) Quenes householde in þe same manere as þe king(es) officers dede and so he made his takinges as touchinge vitailles and also of cariageȝ and al he did for enchesou(~) of spenseȝ and for to gadre tresour and so he dede w(t)oute nombr(e) in al þ(t) he myȝte. // þo made he him wonder p(ri)uee wiþ þe Quene .Js(abel). and so muche lordshipe and retenu had: so þ(t) alle þ(e) grete lord(es) of Engelond of him were adrad wherfore þe king and his counceile towardes him were agreuede and ordeignede a- mong(es) ham for to vndon him þorugh pure resoun and lawe for enchesou(~) þ(t) king Edward þat was þe king(es) fader traitoursly þorugh hi(~) w(a)s mordred i(~) þ(e) castel of Berkele as bifore is saide more plenerely in þe . CC. and xvij. chapit(er). of þis book // And some þ(t) were of þ(e) king(es) counceile loueden þe Mortymer and tolde hi(~) in p(ri)uyte how þat þe king and his counceil were aboute fram day to day him forto shende & vndone wherfore þ(e) Mortymer was sore annoyed and ang(er) as þe deuel aȝens ham þat were of þe kinges counceil & saide þ(t) he wolde on ham ben auengede. how so eu(er) he tok on hit was nouȝt longe aftirward þat king Edward & dame Philipp(a) his wif and dame .Jsabell þe kinges moder and S(ire) Rog(er) Mortimer ne wente vnto. Notyngh(a)m þ(er)e for to soio(ur)ne // And so it fel þat þe Quene .Js(abel). þorugh counceil of þe Mortym(er) tok to hire þe keyes of þe ȝates of þe Castel of Notyngh(a)m: so þat no man myghte come noþ(er) in ne out by nyght but þorugh þe comaundeme(~)t of þ(e) Mortymer ne þe king ne non of his counceile // And þat time it fel so þat þe Mortym(er) as a deuel for wraþ bollede and also for wraþþe þat he had aȝens towarde þe kinges men Edwarde. and p(ri)n- cipally aȝens ham þat had him accused to þe king of þe deþ(e) of S(ire)
