Description:
Vellum roll on mounted cloth. The subject is the Tree of Salvation, and the sequence runs from the bottom to top of the tree. (2) In the central stem of the tree is Abraham holding a scroll. To the left of the central stem are two medallions: (a) Esther (and other maidens) presented to Ahasuerus, and (b) the presentation of the Virgin Mary. On the right of the central stem are two medallions: (c) the Virgin betrothed to Joseph, and (d) Abishag brought to David, who is in bed. (3) In the central stem of the tree is Isaac holding a scroll. To the left of the central stem are two medallions: (a) an angel appearing, in fire on an altar, to Manoah and his wife, and (b) an angel and Zacharias. On the right of the central stem are two medallions: (c) the Annunciation, and (d) the Burning Bush. (4) In the central stem of the tree is Jacob holding a scroll. To the left of the central stem are two medallions: (a) Hannah (before Eli) singing her songs of praise and (b) The Visitation. On the right of the central stem are two medallions: (c) the birth of John Baptist and (d) the birth of Isaac.
