Description:
Illustrated in two stages: the compostion is framed in red, and has painted grisaille. Evangelistic emblems: at the top, eagle and man mutilated; at bottom, lion and ox. In the centre the abbess lies dying or dead on a bed. At her head and feet kneel clerics, one on her right holds a gold incense-ship and swings a gold censer. Eight or nine nuns stand beyond the bed, one of whom holds a very tall gold processional cross, and another a crozier. A third has a large book. The Upper stage also shows the interior of a building; the stonework is pink with a scarlet roof within. In the centre the Virgin and Child appear, below them appear St Maria, St Benedictus in a black habit with a crozier and book; and also St Elyzabetha, in a white headress and a blue mantle over scarlet. She holds an object which may be a church, and a book. All have large gold nimbi.
