Fall of Princes. Book three: Poverty once again states she is quite prepared to wrestle with Fortune under the condition that the victor may bind the other to their will. Fortune smiles and asks how Poverty can keep the terms of any agreement as she is destitute and as such exempt from penalties. Poverty reassures Fortune that she asks no pledge exept that Fortune promises to fight to the finish, agreeing that she herself has no security to offer she tells Fortune that should she lose, Fortune may imprison her. Fortune is more amused than ever but retorts that once she has beaten Poverty, everyone will see the great difference between them and that she will have Orcus tear Poverty apart to show her power. Small illuminated and coloured initials introduce the verses. The written space is 285 x 200 mm in two columns and the script is rather an ugly and unstable anglicana formata.

Ostensibly the work is an adaptation of Laurent de Premierfait's 1409 translation of Giovanni Boccaccio's 'De casibus vivorum illustrium', a collection of moralized tragedies, extending from Adam to King John of France, that were designed to illustrate Fortune's fickle nature and the downfalls brought on by sinful living and unjust government.
