Description:
Siege of Troy. Book four: Priam has a rich tomb made for Troilus and holds a funeral feast. Hecuba plots with Paris to kill Achilles by luring Achilles to the temple of Apollo on the pretext of meeting Polyxena and ambushing him there. Paris and his knights hide in the temple of Apollo and Hecuba sends for Achilles. Achilles is so blinded by love that he comes immediately along with Antilochus, the son of Nestor. Illustrated bas-de-page detail: the killing of Achilles and Antilochus by Paris and his knights in the temple of Apollo. There is a floriated, illuminated full border and an illuminated initial 'P' in the text. The illustration has been identified as being painted by an artist stylistically close to William Abell, an important mid-fifteenth English illuminator. The written space is 305 x 200 mm, 2 columns and 44 lines and the script is anglicana formata by two hands.
