Description:
|
Siege of Troy. Book three: Palamedes objects to Agamemnon commanding the Greek troops but is soon pacified by the others and the first three Greek battalions are given to Achilles, Diomedes and Menelaus. Hector gives his first battalion to Troilus and the Trojans ride out to meet the Greeks. Hector rides at Achilles. Illustrated detail in margin: Achilles and Hector fight. There is a floriated, illuminated full border and an illuminated initial 'L'. The illustration has been identified as being painted by an artist stylistically close to William Abell, an important mid-fifteenth English illuminator. The written space is 305 x 200 mm, 2 columns and 44 lines and the script is anglicana formata by two hands.
