Description:
|
Siege of Troy. Book two: the Greeks set sail for the city of Troy at dawn. The Trojans come out to meet the approaching ships and the Greeks try to land. The first hundred Greek ships are wrecked as they try to land and many men are lost. Illustrated bas-de-page detail: the battle as the Greeks land, with the Trojan forces pouring out of the city gates. There is a floriated, illuminated full border and an illuminated initial 'T'. The illustration has been identified as being painted by an artist stylistically close to William Abell, an important mid-fifteenth English illuminator. The written space is 305 x 200 mm, 2 columns and 44 lines and the script is anglicana formata by two hands.
