Description:
|
Siege of Troy. Book two: In Ilion, Priam's palace, there is an altar to Jupiter. Priam honours Jupiter to keep him from harm, and the statue of Jupiter is set with pearls and precious stones. Priam reigns peacefully in Troy for a time, but becomes increasingly troubled. Illustrated bas-de-page detail: Priam holding court in Troy. There is a floriated, illuminated full border and an illuminated initial 'O' in the text. The illustration has been identified as being painted by an artist stylistically close to William Abell, an important mid-fifteenth English illuminator. The written space is 305 x 200 mm, 2 columns and 44 lines and the script is anglicana formata by two hands.
