Description:
Siege of Troy. Book two: Old Troy and new Troy were both ruined. Lydgate tells us that he will relate the story of new Troy as best he can from Guido delle Colonne's text and asks for the mercy of Prince Henry and all readers of the text to forgive his shortcomings in relating the tale. Illustrated bas-de-page detail: King Priam and his men attacking a castle. There is a floriated, illuminated full border and an illuminated initial 'T' in the text. The illustration has been identified as being painted by an artist stylistically close to William Abell, an important mid-fifteenth English illuminator. The written space is 305 x 200 mm, 2 columns and 44 lines and the script is anglicana formata by two hands.
