Description:
Siege of Troy. Book one: Jason and Medea part. At daybreak Jason goes to King Oetes (Aeëtes) and begs him to allow him to begin the quest for the golden fleece. King Oetes tries once again to dissuade Jason from going but he sees that Jason is commited to the task, and he prays to the gods to keep Jason safe. Illustrated bas-de-page detail: Jason takes leave of King Oetes and sets out on his quest for the golden fleece. There is a floriated, illuminated full border and an illuminated initial 'W' in the text. The illustration has been identified as being painted by an artist stylistically close to William Abell, an important mid-fifteenth English illuminator. The written space is 305 x 200 mm, 2 columns and 44 lines and the script is anglicana formata by two hands.
