Edwardus fader // And p(ri)uely a counceil was taken bituene þe Quene .Js(abel). and þe Mortymer and þe Bisshop of lyncoln and S(ire) Symound of Bereford and S(ir) Hughe of Trompeton and oþ(er)e p(ri)uee of hire counceile for to vndone ham alle þat had accused þe Mortymer vn to þe king of his fadreȝ deþ of tresoun and of felonie wherfore alle þo þ(t) were of þ(e) kinges counceil whanne þey wiste of þe Mortymers castynge p(ri)uely comen to þe king Edwarde and saiden þ(t) þ(e) Mortym(er) wolde ham destroie for cause þ(t) þey had accused him of king Ed- wardus deþ his fader and p(ra)yede him þ(t) he wolde mayntene ham in here trewe querell .and þe king g(ra)untede ham hire bone and saide he wolde mayntene ham in hir right // //And þise were þe lordes to pursue þis querell S(ir) William Mountagu. S(ir) Vmfray de Bonugh S(ir) Will(ia)m his broþ(er) S(ir) Raf of Stafforde. S(ir) Rob(er)t of Hufforde. S(ire) Will(ia)m of Clyntou(~) S(ir) John Nevile of Hornby and manye oþ(er)e of hire consent: and alle þese sworne oppon þe book to mayntene þe querell in as muche as þey myghte // And it bifel so after þ(t) S(ir) William Mountagu ne none of þe kinges frendes moste nought ben herburghed in þe Castel for þe Mortimer but wente and took hire herburghe in diu(er)se placeȝ in þe toun of Notyngh(a)m .and þo were þey sore adrad leste þe Mortim(er) shulde ham destroye // And in haste þere come vnto kyng Edwarde S(ire) S(ire) William Mountagu þ(er)e þat he was in his castel and p(ri)uely tolde hy(~) þat he ne non of his company shulde nought take þe Mor- timer w(t)oute councele and helpe of William of Glande con- stable of þe same Castel // Now certis quoþ þe king y leue ȝow ful wel and þ(er)fore y councele ȝow þat ȝe gon to þe for- saide counstable and com(~)aundeth him in my name þat he be ȝoure frende and ȝoure helpe for to take þe Mortimer al þing(es) leste vppon p(er)ile of lif and of lyme: sire quod Moun- tagu þo sire my lord g(ra)unt m(er)cy // þo wente forth þe forsay- de Mountagu and com to þe Constable of þe Castel .and tolde him þe kinges wille and he ansuerede and sayde
