The words ' Edward 3 ' are written in the top margin. The tale of how Edmund of Woodstock is brought before Roger Mortimer and a court and made to identify the letter by its seal, and accused of being a traitor. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

//And vppon þat þe kinge sente by his l(ett)res after S(ir) Edmund of Wodestoke þat he shulde come and speke w(t) him at Wynche- str(e) alle man(er)e þinges lefte //And whanne S(ir) Edmund saugh þat þe king sente aftir him w(t) his l(ett)re ensealed: he hastede him in al þ(t) he myghte til þat he com vnto Wynchestr(e) // but þo þe Quene wiste þat Edmund was come vnto Wynchestr(e) anon she praiede and so faste wente vnto Edwarde hire sone þ(t) þe good erl was arrest anon and lad vnto þe barr bifore Rob(er)t of Hamounde þat was coroner of þe kinges householde and he associede vnto him S(ire) Roger of Mortym(er). and þo spak þe forsaide John vnto him & saide // Sire Edmund erl of kent ȝe shal vndirstande þat it is don vs to wyte and p(ri)ncipaly vnto oure liege lord S(ir) Edeward. king of Engelond þ(t) almygh ty god saue and kepe þat ȝe beþ his dedely enemy and his traito(ur) and also co(~)mune enemy vnto þ(e) reaume. and þ(t) ȝe haue ben aboute many a day for to make p(ri)uyleche delyu(er)aunce of S(ir) Edwarde som time king of Engelonde ȝoure broþ(er) þ(e) which was pulte a doun of his realte by co(~)mune assent of alle þe lordes of Engelonde in pesynge of oure lord þe kinges a- state. and also of of his reame // þo ansuerde þe good man and saide for sothe sire vndirstandeth wel þat y was neu(er)e assentynge for to empeire þe estat of oure lord þe king ne of þe coronne and þ(t) y pulte me to ben demed op- pon my pieres // And w(t) þat word S(ir) Rog(er) Mor tymer shewede ham þe erles l(ett)re and his seal. and saide þo S(ir) Edmund knowe ȝe ought þe preynt of þis l(ett)re þat he had take vnto S(ir) John Dauerell. and he saugh þe preint of his seal but he saugh nought what was conteynede in þe l(ett)re: and þe erl him self wende þ(t) hit had ben on of his l(ett)res þ(t) had ben of no charge // þo saide þe erl to S(ir) Roger Mortim(er) þat he wolde nouȝt forsake þe l(ett)re and þat was þe preynte of his seal. and anon w(t) þat worde þe wyly and fals Mortym(er) bigan to vndon þe lettre and gan it for to rede in audience of al þe Court // And þo saide S(ire)
