The words ' Edward 3 ' are written in the top margin. The tale of the pride of Roger Mortimer, and how he was called the King of Folly, of how he called a meeting around a round table like King Arthur, and of the contrast between him and King Arthur. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial ' A ' introduce the tale of Edmund of Woodstock. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

þey seide amonges ham alle com(~)unely þat his p(ri)de shulde noughte longe endure // And þe same time S(ire) Giffray þe Mortymer þe ȝonge þat was þe Mortymers sone lete him calle king of folye: and so it bifelle aftirward in dede // For he was so fulle of pride and of wrecchednesse: þ(t) he held a rounde table in walis to alle men þ(t) þider wolde come and counterfetede þe manere & doynge of king Arthurus table but openly he faillede: for þe noble knyght Arthur was most worþy lord of renoun þ(t) was in al þe worlde in his time and ȝit come neuere non such aftir him: for alle þe noble knyȝ tes þorugh c(ri)stendome of dede of armeȝ alosede duellede w(t) king Arthur and helde him for hire lorde: and þ(t) was wel sene for he conquerede in bataile a romayn þ(t) me callede Frolle and gette of him þe reaume of F(ra)unce and queld hy(~) w(t) his handes // And also he faught w(t) a geaunt þ(t) me callede Dynabus and quelde him þ(t) had rauisshed þ(e) faire Heleyne. þ(t) was king Hoelles nece king of litel Britaigne: and aftirward he quelde in bataile þe Emp(er)our of Rome þat me callede lucye þat had assemble aȝens king Arthur for to fighte with him so muche peple of Romayns and of Peihtis and of Saracenes þ(t) no man couþ(e) ham numbr(e) and he des- comfitede ham alle as þe storie of him more plenerloker tel- leth // And in þe same time comune loos spronge in Enge londe þorugh coniectinge and ordinaunce of þe frer p(re)cho(ur)s þat S(ire) Edward of Carnariuan þ(t) was king Edwardes fader of whom þe geste telleth saiden þ(t) he was alife in þe Cas- tel of Corf wherfore alle þe co(~)munes almost of Engelond were in sorwe and drede wheþ(er) þat it were so or were noght þey wiste neu(er)e how þe Mortim(er) traitoursly had him done mordred How Edmund of Wodestocke þat was erl of kent and þe kinges broþ(er) Edwarde of Carnari uan was biheueded at Wynchestr(e) Capitulo .CC(mo).
