Description:
There are some ink graffiti pen-trials in the right margin. The words ' Edward 3 ' are written in the top margin. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial ' A ' introduce the tale of how the English army meet the Scots in Stanhope in Wyredale, and how Sir Roger Mortimer secretly plots with the Scots to help them escape back to Scotland. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

for to helpe þe kyng hire pees was cried vppon peyne of lif and lyme and in þat oþ(er) half it was founde by enquest of þe Citee þat þe englissh me(~) bigonne þe debate How þe Englisshe men stoppede þe scottis in þe park of Stanhope and how þey turnede aȝen in to Scotlande. Cap(o) CC(mo). xiiij. And at þat time þe Scottis had assembled al hire poer and comen in to Engelonde and quelde & robbede alle þat þey mighte take wiþoute nombr(e) and brende & destroiede al þe North cuntree þorugh out til þat þey come to þe park of Stanhope in Wyredale and þ(er)e þ(e) scott(is) helde ham in a bussheme(~)t // But whanne þe king had herde þorugh certeinȝ aspies where þe scottes wer(e): anon right w(t) his host he bisegede þe forsaide park so þat þe Scottes wiste neu(er)e where for to gon out but onliche vn- to hire armes. and þey abiden in þe park xv. dayes & vitailes ham failede in eu(er)y side so þat þey were gretly enpeirede of hire bodies // And sith þat Brut com first in to Britaigne vnto þis time. was. was neu(er)e seyn sithenes so faire an hoste what of englissh men and of Alienes and of me(~) of foote þe whiche ordeignede ham for to fighte w(t) þe Scottis þorugh eggyng of S(ir) Henry erl of Lancastr(e). and of S(ire) Joh(a)n Henaude þat wolde haue gon ouer þe water of withe for to haue foughte w(t) þe scottis: but S(ire) Rog(er) of Mortim(er) consen- tede nouȝt þ(er)to for he had p(ri)uyliche taken mede of þ(e) scott(is) ham for to helpe þat þey myghte wende aȝen in to hire owene cuntree // And þe same Mortimer counceilede so- muche Thom(a)s of Broþ(er)tone þat þe erl Marchal þ(t) was king Edwardus vncle: þat þe forsaide Thom(a)s shulde nouȝt assemble at þ(t) time vnto þe scottis: and he assen- tede: bit he wiste nouȝt þe doyng bituene þe scottis & þe forsaide Mortimer. and for enchesou(~) þat he was Mar- chal of Engelond and to him p(er)teyneth eu(er)e þ(e) vauntwarde he sente hastily to þe erl of Lancastr(e) & to S(ir).
