Description:
|
There are tears in the vellum in the middle of the folio which appear to have been stitched and come apart again. The words 'Edward 2' are written in the top margin. The words 'Edward 3' are written in the left margin, along with a note 'Ano 1326'. The tale of how Merlyn's prophecies about how King Edward II was deposed and lived the rest of his life in sorrow and anguish were true. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial ' A ' introduce the tale of how Edward III was crowned King. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

is saide and hire companye and also for þe grete falsnes- se þat þey deden vnto king Edward and his peple // & Merlyn sayde also more þat þe Goot shulde be pult in to grete dissese and in g(re)t anguissh and in gret sorwe he shul de lede his lif: and he saide soþ: for aft(er) time þ(t) king Ed- ward was take he was pulte in to warde til þ(t) þ(e) Spens(er)s were pulte vnto þe deþ // And also for enchesou(~) þ(t) he wol- de nouȝt come vnto his owene p(ar)leme(~)t at Londou(~) as he had ordeyned and assigned him self and to his Barona- ge. and also wolde nouȝt gou(er)ne and rewele his peple ne his reaume as a king shulde done. Somme of þ(e) barou(~)s of Engelonde comen and ȝelden vp hire homages vnto hy(~) for ham and for alle þe oþ(er)e of þe reaume in þe day of Con- u(er)sioun of sent paul and in þe ȝere of his regne .xx. and þey pulte him out of his realte for eu(er)more. and eu(er)e he le uede his lif aftirward. in muche sorwe & anguissh Of king Edwarde þe þridde aft(er) þ(e) conq(ue)st Cap(o) CC(mo). xii(mo). And aftir þis king Edward. of Carnariuan regnede S(ir) Edward of Wyndesore his sone þ(e) which was crouned king and anoynted at Westm(inster) þorugh co(~)sent and wille of alle þe g(re)te lord(es) of þe reaume þe souneday in Candelmasse eue of oure lady in þ(e) ȝere of g(ra)ce M(o).CCC(mo). and xxvj(o). þ(t) was þ(t) time of age but xv. ȝere and for en- chesoun þat his fader was in warde in þe castel of Ke- nilworth and eke was pult doun of his roialte. þe reame of Engelonde was as w(t)oute king fro þe feste of sente Kat(er)ine in þ(e) ȝere aboue saide vnto þe feste of Candelmas se: and þo were alle man(er)e plees of þe kinges benche astent. // And þo was co(~)maunded to alle þ(e) sherrefs of Engelonde þorugh write to warne þe parties defen- dauntȝ þoruȝ sompnynge aȝen: and also ferthermore þ(t) alle þe P(ri)soners þat wer(e) in þe kynges Gayole þat were attachede þorugh sherrefs shulde ben lete gon quyte. // The king Edward aftir his coronaciou(~) at þe prayer
