Description:
The words 'Edward 2' are written in the top margin. The tale of how Arnold of Spain is beheaded. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial ' W ' introduce the tale of how King Edward and his reduced retinue flee first to Bristol castle and then to Wales, where they are all captured by Queen Isabelle's men and taken into custody. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

for he was a coueytous man and had w(t) him no m(er)cy and euele counceilede þe king and sone þ(er) aft(er) was arnolde of Spaigne taken he þat was assentaunt to haue lad þe vif .M(l). pound of siluer in vif barell ferers vnto þe Dussepiers of ff(ra)unce for to helpe and haste þe Quene .Is(abel). to hire deth and Edward hire sone also: And þis Arnolde was done vnto þe deth wiþoute þ(e) Citee of Londou(~) How king Edward Cap(o) CC(mo). ix(o) [...] and S(ir) Hughe þ(e) Spens(er) wer(e) takene and þ(e) erl of Arundel . Whanne king Edward had sent maister Walter of Stapultou(~) his tresorer in to Londou(~) for to kepe þe Citee vnto him aȝen þe Quene .Is(abel). his wif and aȝen Ed was hir(e) sone anon him self nome w(t) him S(ir) Hugh þ(e) Spens(er) þe fader and S(ir). Hugh. his sone and S(ir) John Erl of Arundell and maister Rob(er)t Baldok his Chaunceler a fals pilede Clerk and nomen hire way toward Bristowe and þ(er) þe king abode a litel terme and made S(ir) Hugh þe Spen ser þe fader as Conestable and kep(er)e of þe Castel: and þ(e) king and þe othere aboue saide wente in to Shippe and saylede toward Walys and nome no leue of þe Styward ne of none of þe king(es) householde and wente ouer in to Walys for to arrere þe Walshe men aȝens Dame Is(abel). þ(e) q(ue)ne and Duk Edwarde of Gyene hire sone and hir(e) companye // But þe Quene and þe Duk hire sone and þe erl of Kent and S(ir) Joh(a)n of Henaude and þey wente and pursuede aft(er) ham and hire poer come and encrescede eu(er)y day and so at þe laste þe king was taken vppon an hulle in Walys and S(ir) Hughe þe Spens(er) þe sone in þat oþ(er) side of þe same hulle and þe fals pilede Clerc Maist(er) Rob(er)t of Baldok þ(er)e faste biside ham and were broughte aȝen in to Engelonde as al- myghty god wolde and þe king him self was in sauf ke- pynge in þe Castel of Kenylworthe and him kepte S(ir) Henry þat was sent Thom(a)s broþ(er) of lancastr(e). and S(ire) Hughe þe Spens(er) þ(e) fad(er) com and pulte him vnto þe Quene grace and to S(ire) Edward hire sone Duk of Gyene // But S(ir) Hugh þ(e) Spens(er)
