How S(ir) An- drew of Hercla was taken and pulte vn to þe deth þ(t) was [...] erl of Cardoill. Capitulo CC(mo). And at þat [...] time S(ire). Andreu of Hercla þ(t) newe was made erl of Cardoill. for cause þ(t) he had taken þe good Erl Thom(a)s of lan- castr(e). he had ordeyned þorugh þe king(es) co(~)maundeme(~)t of En- gelond for to bringe him al þe poer þ(t) he mighte for to helpe him aȝens þe Scottis att þe Abbay of Beiglande // And whan þe fals traito(ur) had gadered al þe peple þ(t) he mighte and shulde haue comen to þe king vnto þ(e) Abbay of Beigland: þe false traito(ur) lad ham by anoþ(er) cuntr(e). þorugh Copelonde & þorugh þ(e) Erldome of lancastr(e) and wente þorugh þ(e) cuntree and robbede and q(ue)lde folc alle þ(t) he mighte // And fer þ(er)mor(e) þe false traitour had taken a g(re)t soume of golde & siluer of S(ir) James Douglas. for to ben aȝens þ(e) king of Engelond and to ben helpyng and holding w(t) þ(e) Scott(es). þorugh who(se) t(re)soun(~)þe king of Engelonde was scomfited at Beighland. er þ(t) he com þeder wherfore(e) þe king was toward him won- der wroth and lete p(ri)uely enquer(e) by þe cuntr(e) aboute how þ(t) it was and so men enq(ue)rede. and aspiede so atte laste þat trewþ(e) was founde and sought: and he atteynt & taken as a fals traito(ur) as þe noble erl Thom(a)s of lan- castr(e) him tolde ar þ(t) he were done vnto þe deth at his taking at Burbrigg(e) and to him saide þat or þ(t) ȝere were done he shulde ben take and holde a tretour and so it was as þe holy man saide. wherfore þe king sente p(ri)ueleche to Antoyne of lucye. a knyȝt of þe cuntre of Cardoill þat he shulde take S(ir) Andreu of Hercla & pulte him vn to þ(e) deth and to bringe þis þing vnto þe ende. þ(e) kinge sente his co(~)missiou(~): so þ(t) þe same andrev. was take at Cardo- ill and led vnto þe barr(e) in man(er)e of an erl worþily ar- rayede and w(t) a swerd gert aboute him and hosed and spored // þo spak S(ire) Antoyne in þis man(er)e.
