The words ' Edward 2 ' are written in the top margin. The tale of Edward's unfair taxes on the people. The tale of how Edward invades Scotland but the Scots evade him and starve the troops out until Edward returns to England, whereupon the Scots come into Northallerton and are victorious. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

heritede alle ham þat þo goodes oweden. and þorugh here counceil lete arere a talliage of alle þ(e) goodes of Engelond. Wherfore he was þe richest king þ(t) euere was in Engelond after Will(ia)m Bastard of Normandie þat conquerede Enge- londe // and ȝit þorugh counseil of ham him semede þat he had nouȝt ynough. but made ȝet eu(er)y tou(~)n in Engelond fynde a man of armes oppon hire owene costageȝ for to gon and werr uppon þe Scottes þat were his enemys wherfor(e) þe king wente in to Scotlande w(t) an hundred þousand me(~). of Armeȝ at Whitsontide in þe ȝere of oure lord god a þousand .iij(C). and xxij. but þ(e) Scottes wenten and hudde ham in mountaynes and in woodes and tariede þe englissh men fro day to day þ(t) þe king mighte for no maner þing ham fynde in playne felde. Wherfore manye Englissh men þat fewe vitaill hadden for hung(er) þere deiden wonder faste & sodeynly for hung(er) in goynge and in comyng and nameliche þo þat had ben aȝens Thom(a)s of Lancastr(e) and had robbed his men uppon his landes // Whanne king Edward saugh þat vitailes failede him he was þo wonder sore descomfortede for enchesou(~) also þat his men so deide: and also for he mighte nought spede of his enemys. so at þe laste he com aȝen in to Engelond: and anon aft(er) com Jameȝ douglas and also Thom(a)s Randulf w(t) an huge host in to Engelond in to Northu(~)birland and w(t) ham þe englissh me(~) þ(t) were dryuen out of Engelond and comen and robbede þe cuntr(e) and quelde þe peple and also brende þe tou(~)n þ(t) was cal led Nortallertou(~) and manye o þ(er)e tounes vnto ȝork // And whenne þ(e) king herde þis tidynge: he lete sompne alle man(er)e men þ(t) mighte trauayle and so þe englisshe mette þe Scottes at þe Abbay of Beighelande. þ(e) .xv(e) day after migheles masse in þ(e) same ȝere aboue saide. and þ(e) englissh men were þere descomfitede. and at. scomfiture was ta- ke S(ir) Joh(a)n of Britaigne erl of Richemound þ(t) held þe cuntr(e) and þ(e) erldom of lancastr(e). and aft(er) he payed an
