Description:
The words ' Edward 2 ' are written in the top margin. The tale of how Piers of Gavaston is slain by the Earl of Lancaster and the Earl of Warwick, who are then themselves put to death by King Edward for their crime against his friend. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial ' A ' introduce the tale of how Robert the Bruce comes again into Scotland, assembles a host and comes fighting into Northumberland. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

shame ham saide and by manye oþ(er)e grete lordes of Engelond wherfore þey were towardes him ful ang(er)e and sore annoyed // And in þe same tyme deide þe Erl of Nichole . but he chargede ar he was ded Thom(a)s of Lancastr(e). erl þ(t) was his sone in lawe þat he shulde mayntene his quarel aȝens þe same Pieres of Gauestoun(~) vppon his benesoun(~) // And so it was ordeigned þorugh helpe of þe erl of Lancastr(e) and of þe erl of Warwyk þat þe for saide S(ire) Pieres was biheueded at Gauersiche bisides Warwyk þe xix(e). day of Jun(er). Jn þe ȝere of grace a þousand .iij(e). and xij. Wherfore þe king was sore annoyede and p(ra)yde god þ(t) he most se þat day to ben auenged vppon þe deth of þe forsayde Piers // And so it bifel aftirward as ȝe shullet her allas þe time ffor þe forsaide Erl of Lancastr(e) and many anoþ(er) gret Baroun(~) wer(e) pulte to pietous deth and martred for enchesoun(~) of þe forsaide quarell // þe king was þo at Londou(~) and held a p(ar)leme(~)t and ordeignede þe lawes of S(ir) Simound Mountfort wherfore þ(e) erl of Lancastr(e) and alle þe Erles and al þe clergie of Engelonde maden an oth þorugh counceil of Rob(er)t of Wynchelsee for to mayntene þo ordinaunces for eu(er)more. How Rob(er)t þ(e) Brus come aȝen in to Scotlande and gadred a gret poer of men for to werre vppon king Edwarde Cap(o) C(mo). octogesi(~)o octano. And whanne S(ir) Rob(er)t þe Brus þat made him king of Scotland. þat was fled in to. Norweye. for drede of deth of þe good king Edward and herde of þe debate þat was in Engelond bituene þe king and his lordes he ordeignede an host and come in to Engelonde in to Northu(~)birlande and clanly destroyede þ(e) cuntr(e) // And whanne king Edward herd þis tiding he lete assemble his host and mette þe Scottes at Estreuelyn in þe day of Natiuite of sent Joh(a)n þe Baptist in þe ȝere of his regne þe .vij. and in þe ȝere of oure lord J(e)h(u)s crist.
