Description:
The words ' Edward I ' are written in the top margin. The tale of the battle at Falkirk and of King Edward's victory there. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial ' A ' introduce the tale of the marriage of King Edward to Margaret the daughter of Philip, the King of France, and how King Edward goes again to war in Scotland. Red rubrication and an illuminated initial ' K ' introduce the tale of how King Edward besieges Stirling castle and threatens those within with the gallows. The written space is c.182 x 112 mm and the script is anglicana formata.

bled for to abide bataile. and on sent mary magdaleyn day þe king come to ffoukirk. and ȝaf bataile to þe Scottes and at þat bataile were quelde of Scottes .xxxiij. þousande. and of en- glisshe men but .xxviij. and no mo of þe whiche was a worþy knyght slayn þat was a knyȝt an hospitaler þat me callede ffrere Brian. Jay: ffor whanne William Waleys fley fram þe Bataile þat same frere Brian him pursuede fersliche and as his hors ran hit sterte in to a mer of marreys vp to þe bely and William Waleys turnede þo aȝen. and þere quelde þe for saide Brian. and þ(t) was muche harme // And while king Edward wente þorugh Scotlande for to enquere ȝif he migh- te fynde enye of his enemys and in þat lande he duellede as long as him likede and þere was non enemy þat derst him abide // And sone afterward king Edwarde wente to South(au)mpton for he wolde nought abide in Scotland in wynter sesoun: for esement of his peple// And whanne he come to Londou(~): he lete amende manye misdedes þ(t) were don aȝens his pees and his lawe whil þat he was in fflaun- dres Of þe laste mariage of king Edwarde and how he wente þe þridde time in to Scotlande Ca.(o) C.(mo) Octogesimo [...] vndecimo And aftirward it was ordeigned þorugh þe [...] court of Rome þat king Edward shulde wedde Dame Margarete king Philippus suster of ff(ra)unce: and þe Erchebisshop Robert of Wynchelse spousede ham to gedere þorugh which mariage pees was made bituene king Ed ward of Engelonde and king Philip of ff(ra)unce // king Ed- ward wente þo þe þridde time in to Scotlande and þo w(t)- inne þe ferste ȝer he had enfamined þe lande so þ(t) þere ne lefte nought on þat ne come vnto his m(er)cy: saf þo þ(t) were in þe Castel of Estreuelyn. þat was wel vitailled & astored. for. vij. ȝere How þe Castel of Estreuelyn was [...] biseged Ca(o) C.(mo) lx(mo). xij(mo).
